Autonomous street cleaning is no longer a concept - it's on the road. At ENWAY, a Bucher Municipal company based in Berlin, we turn conventional street sweepers into self-driving machines through advanced robotics and software engineering. We've just launched our first product: the Bucher CityCat VR17ae, a fully autonomous compact sweeper.
As our Systems & DevOps Lead Engineer, you'll own the backbone that lets us build and ship reliable software across our entire vehicle range — from our autonomous robotics stack to the next-generation software and electronics platform shared by our conventional sweepers. You'll build and run the CI/CD, embedded build, and infrastructure our software and hardware teams depend on every day, and set the technical direction for how we do it as we scale.
This is a hands-on lead role for someone who's deeply technical, takes end-to-end ownership of systems and reliability, and enjoys being close to real hardware, not just cloud abstractions. You'll work directly with engineers across software, embedded, and hardware to remove friction and keep development fast and dependable.
Backed by Bucher Municipal, a world-leading manufacturer of municipal cleaning vehicles (sweepers, sewer cleaning, winter maintenance, refuse collection, and digital services), you get startup pace with industrial-scale impact.
Tasks
You'll own all Systems & DevOps topics at Bucher Municipal Compact Sweeper Competence Center: setting direction and building the systems our teams rely on. This includes, but isn't limited to:
- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines that build, test, release, and deploy multiple software/hardware revisions in parallel.
- Own our embedded Linux build and delivery chain - from Yocto/BitBake image generation to the over-the-air (OTA) update pipeline - so we can build, ship, and update software reliably across our vehicle platforms.
- Expand, improve, and maintain our critical systems infrastructure and its automation.
- Set standards and best practices for infrastructure, reliability, and tooling across the engineering organisation.
- Own monitoring, alerting, and incident response so issues are caught and resolved early.
- Work hands-on with real hardware on the vehicles.
- Partner with our software, embedded, and hardware teams to debug issues and remove development friction.
Requirements
Must have:
- Strong Unix/Linux administration experience.
- Solid command of version control (Git/GitHub) and modern CI / build automation (e.g. GitHub Actions, GitLab).
- Hands-on experience with containerisation and virtualisation (e.g. Docker, virtual machines).
- Infrastructure-as-code experience (e.g. Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Salt).
- Experience building and maintaining server infrastructure and networking (VPN, setup, and ongoing maintenance).
- Working knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g. Python, C++, JavaScript).
- A DevOps mindset: You enable developers and other teams rather than gatekeep them.
- Able to work fast and independently while favouring teamwork; proactive, can-do attitude and strong communication skills.
- 5+ years of professional full-time experience.
- Fluent English.
Nice to have:
- German language skills.
- Experience with logging & monitoring infrastructure (e.g. ELK stack, PagerDuty).
- Cloud and/or container-orchestration experience (e.g. AWS/GCP/Azure, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of robotics frameworks such as ROS.
- Knowledge of CMake.
- 10+ years of professional full-time experience.
