The role
- Serve as the technical authority for generative AI, large language models and applied machine learning
- Support strategic and technically complex customer engagements
- Raise generative-AI capability across a field engineering organisation of about 70 people
- Represent the employer through talks, articles and executive briefings
What you will do
- Scope, design and reduce risk in retrieval, agent, fine-tuning and evaluation use cases
- Build proofs of concept and production-quality reference implementations
- Lead model customisation and evaluation work for quality-sensitive and safety-critical settings
- Translate customer and field feedback into product and engineering input
- Run workshops and create reference architectures and internal training
- Advise both hands-on engineers and senior technical executives
What you will bring
- Deep knowledge of proprietary and open-source language models and their trade-offs
- Expertise in retrieval, agents, tool use, prompting, evaluation, model customisation and safety controls
- Strong machine-learning foundations, including distributed training, graphics-processor workloads and operational model lifecycles
- Proficiency in Python and modern machine-learning frameworks and data-processing tools
- Experience with cloud platforms and production-quality implementations
- Excellent consultative communication, technical leadership and mentoring skills
- Ability to work at the pace of high-growth digital businesses
- Experience supporting digital-native data or machine-learning customers is advantageous
- Public technical contributions or regulated-industry experience are useful
